Once Upon a Time...

 

 

In a magical realm where technology and imagination collide, a team of three embarked on a journey of discovery in the Sensors and Circuits course at Global Innovation Exchange. Armed with knowledge of fundamental circuits and capacitors, they set out to explore the mysteries of sensors and their endless possibilities. They delved deep into the realms of accelerometers, gyroscopes, sound detectors, temperature sensors, strain gauges, and more, seeking to unlock the secrets of human-computer interaction. With their wizardry skills in Unity, they crafted an enchanted wand that could bring virtual objects to life, creating a game beyond imagination that could captivate the hearts of all who dared to play it. Join us on a quest of knowledge and magic as we unveil the secrets of this extraordinary project, where technology meets enchantment in the most wondrous way imaginable.

In this wonderful journey, I am the master of this project, wielding the powers of UX design, game scene planning, and video editing.

Magic begins...

Why this topic?

 

The desire for magic was not just a passing fancy. People all around the world were captivated by the allure of magic, and yearned for a way to experience it in their daily lives.

When The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened, Universal Studios Hollywood experienced a staggering 13.9% jump in attendance, with over 8.1 million visitors in 2017 alone. The Harry Potter franchise, with over 500 million copies sold, had cast a spell over the world, creating a yearning for magic that could not be ignored.

 

To fulfill this desire, we set out to create a wand that would not just be a prop for cosplay, but a true tool of magic. A wand that would awaken a sense of wonder and possibility in people's hearts, allowing them to experience magic in their everyday lives.

Who are the typical users?

But where could this wand be used?

 

The possibilities were endless. From theme parks to escape rooms, from art installations to home automation, the wand could be used anywhere that magic was needed.

So, how did we do it?
 

We first studied how the wizards and witches cast spells. They would wield their wands with great care, knowing that the slightest gesture could cast a powerful spell. As we delved into the mysteries of magic, we realized that there were two crucial signals that must be mastered - the graceful wave of the wand and the resounding call of the spell. Without these, the magic would remain dormant, locked away from the world.

And so, armed with the knowledge of the ancients, gyroscope, accelerometer, and sound sensor were selected to capture these signals with precision and grace. They crafted a wand that would sense the subtlest of movements, from the gentlest flick of the wrist to the grandest sweep of the arm. And they imbued it with the power to detect the very essence of the spell, to capture the very tone and timber of the incantation.

Next, we prototyped the wand and connected the circuit.

 

As we embarked on the quest to create a wand that could bring magic to people's lives, the journey began with the crafting of the wand itself. With the help of a trusty 3D printer, the wand shell began to take shape, a physical manifestation of the magic that would soon be brought to life.

But a wand is more than just a shell - it needs the power to cast spells. And so, the team turned to the power of technology, using C++ language to develop an Arduino board that would receive data from the wand's accelerometer, gyroscope, and sound detector. It was a complex process, one that required both technical skill and a deep understanding of the mechanics of magic.

Finally, the moment arrived to bring all the pieces together, to assemble the wand and imbue it with the power to create magic. As the final touches were made, we couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation - for this was no ordinary wand. This was a wand that could truly bring magic to life.
